Sandpoint is located between the Selkirk and Cabinet Mountains within the Purcell Trench, which was carved by a 2000 ft thick sheet of, ice millions of years ago. The town of Sandpoint is wedged between Schweitzer mtn resort and Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced: pond-orey). Lake Pend Oreille is one of the largest naturally formed lakes in the United States at 43 mi long, 6 mi wide and up to 1150 ft deep. The natural beauty is stunning and the area offers endless opportunities for hiking, swimming, boating, camping, fishing and wildlife observing. The air, water and Earth are pristine.
